Viraasat - Hand Tufted Collections
By the dictionary, Viraasat means ‘Legacy’ and ‘Inheritance’. Basically, the items or the culture passed down to a generation from their forefathers. But in reality, the word means so much more. Legacy often holds an emotional connection. From the smallest piece of cloth to a collection of jewelry, from an entire family bungalow to a set of values, Viraasat can be anything.
Along the same lines, we at Obeetee Carpets have launched our latest collection,’ Viraasat’. Being in the industry for over a century now, we always try to bring something new to our customers. But this time we thought of bringing the old in a new way. We are over 100 years old but the art of carpet weaving ages back to the 1300s. In India, this art was brought by the Mughals- Persian royalty who were known for their love for art and architecture. It was in the Mughar Era when Persian artisans were seen hand-making rugs for the empire. These artisans passed down the art of carpet weaving to Indian artisans as they taught them, birthing the said art in our country.
With our retail outlet spread across the country, our weaving unit resides in Bhadohi, Mirzapur. With a family of more than 25000 weavers, we are one of the biggest rug makers in the industry. Artisans who handmake these intricate rugs for us have been with us for generations. From great-great-grandfathers to the generations crafting carpets today, this art has been a Viraasat to them and us. In this collection, we have not only designed highly intricate rugs but have also collaborated with renowned designers like Anita Dalmia, Ashdeen, Anju Modi, and Tarun Tahiliani. Each of these designers has not only added life to this collection but has poured a touch of their own Viraasat on the carpet canvas.
From hand-knotted to hand-tufted, in this collection, we have rugs for the floor and the wall. While we will dedicate a piece to the hand-knotted and designer rugs from Viraasat, this time, we’ll talk about the hand-tufted rugs from this collection.
