Curiosity about our lineage, and where you come from compels you to dive deeper into each photo that acts as a portal to captured moments. For Mariella Ienna, an Italian-Australian designer, these nostalgic memories exist in the streets of Palermo, the capital city of Sicily. Born and brought up in Australia then migrating back to the land of her ancestral homeland of Italy at the age of 12, she chose to untangle a bunch of strings of her memories, tracing the roots of her lineage. To encapsulate these memories in her way, she translated these abstract ideas onto a collection of carpets. Creating her own “pile” of memories, she designed Mediterranean Memories.
