Obeetee at Design Mumbai

Art is an integral part of the human world. Without art, one cannot find meaning in the very essence of their being. Be it in the form of music we listen to, the movies that we like to watch over a weekend after a busy week, that painting we bought because it reached the depths of our emotions or even just the way a fallen leaf from the tree in autumn travels from one destination to another- art is everywhere, and we consume it every day. In today’s fast-paced world, however, it has become a bit difficult to pause and even find the time to acknowledge all that exists around us. But dear readers, if you do not pause and reflect upon the things that make you find meaning in this world, emotional exhaustion might get the best of you.

To help you break free from this monotony and delve deeper into your artistic pursuits, Design Mumbai has brought to you a four-day event that invites an array of businesses to the heart of Mumbai and showcase their product offerings in the realm of home décor. ‘Design Mumbai is a celebration of great design. It is a fresh new international trade show for contemporary designers, architects and interior designers, capturing the creative energy and consumer power of the world’s 5th biggest economy. Leading international and Indian brands and designers are hand-picked and impeccably curated to create a show of the very highest quality and originality. (https://design-mumbai.com/)’  The exhibition which was held from 6^th to 9^th November, was the first edition of the Design Mumbai.

Obeetee values such initiatives and platforms where we not only get to be a part of the exhibition and showcase our products but also become a part of a larger community of design and its connoisseurs. This is exactly what drove us to take our debut participation at the design show to the next level, as we unveiled our latest collection in collaboration with Tissage- Domni. Collaborating with Tissage always has let Obeetee as a 104 year old brand, explore the contemporary approach of design and tell our story in a different way. Tissage is known for its contemporary approach when it comes to its storytelling, and now that Obeetee has become a collaborative partner in the collection, it changes the way carpets are perceived by home and space owners. The carpets of the collection, Domni, are just as suited for the wall as for the floor; one glance at them and they feel like they are the traces of a woman dancing at the bottom of her feet. This movement and the stillness at the same time make these rugs so special.

The story of Domni deeply resonated with the visitors at the Design Mumbai exhibition. The collection pays homage to the tapestry of the emotions a woman experiences throughout her life. It is a story told through dance, with every performance becoming an expression of her intrinsic thoughts. From the delicate pirouettes of idealism to the fierce leaps of expectations–the story is told in 4 separate acts which take you on a journey of societal pressures, emotional turmoil, and rebellion, all of which are done through the feminine lens.

Act 1: Bloom

As she woke, the veil of idealism took shape and her exploration began–her eyes glistening with wonder, and curiosity in every step.

Act 2: Whirlwind

In the midst of her elated rhythm, the glee turns to fear as she is caught in the strings of her expectations.

Act 3: Inferno

Shrouded in expectation and convention, she found her rebellion–embracing outrage and donning it as a badge of honour.

Act 4: Serenity

In the aftermath of turmoil, she is overcome with clarity–moments of acceptance, expression and a romance of self.

While the collection showcases Tissage’s expressive and contemporary design sensibilities, it also highlights Obeetee’s take on modern design and mission to weave intricate stories into their carpets, celebrating the effeminate journey of a woman. Just like the performance unfolds in four acts- Bloom, Whirlwind, Inferno, and Serenity- these carpets invite viewers to connect with themes of acceptance and self-discovery, highlighting the balance between societal pressures and personal rebellion.
